Kids on the Slope
In the sweltering heat of Kyushu's summer, a shy and introverted pianist named Kaoru Nishimi arrives at his new high school, resigned to another year of solitude. His life takes an unexpected turn when he crosses paths with Sentarou Kawabuchi, a charismatic delinquent with a passion for jazz. As Sentarou's infectious enthusiasm draws Kaoru into the world of improvisational music, the introverted student begins to blossom, forging an unlikely friendship that transcends their vastly different personalities. As the summer unfolds, Kaoru finds himself drawn to the basement jazz sessions at Ritsuko Mukae's family-owned record shop, where he discovers the joy of using his musical talents to bring happiness to himself and others. With each passing day, Kaoru's confidence grows, and he finds himself embracing a new sense of purpose and belonging. Against the vibrant backdrop of 1960s Japan, this poignant tale of self-discovery, friendship, and first love explores the transformative power of music to bring people together and change their lives forever.
