In the distant past, humanity's discovery of a hypergate on the Moon unlocked a gateway to Mars, where they stumbled upon an otherworldly technology dubbed "Aldnoah." This find birthed the Vers Empire, a Martian nation that declared war on those who remained on Earth, dubbed "Terrans." The conflict was temporarily halted after a devastating battle on the Moon, dubbed "Heaven's Fall," destroyed the lunar hypergate and left the two planets in an uneasy truce.

Fifteen years of fragile peace are shattered when high school student Inaho Kaizuka witnesses the assassination of Princess Asseylum Vers Allusia, the Martian royal who had come to Earth seeking to mend the rift between her empire and its homeworld. The Vers Empire's declaration of war once more plunges the two planets into chaos.
