In the world of competitive karuta, a card game steeped in Japanese literature and tradition, Chihaya Ayase's life takes an unexpected turn. As a child, she was consumed by her sister's ambitions to become a model, but after standing up to a bully and discovering the sport, Chihaya finds a new passion. With the help of her childhood friends Arata Wataya and Taichi Mashima, she joins the Shiranami Society and sets her sights on becoming the Queen of Karuta.

Years pass, and Chihaya's relationships with her friends become strained. She and Taichi drift apart, while Arata disappears from her life. However, Chihaya's determination to improve her skills and become the best karuta player in Japan drives her to create a new club at her high school. With the support of Taichi, a seasoned player, and a group of enthusiastic newcomers, the Mizusawa Karuta Club is born.

As Chihaya and her team work together to perfect their craft, they face off against rival schools and confront their own personal demons. With each match, Chihaya's confidence grows, and she begins to realize that her true strength comes not just from her karuta skills, but from the bonds she forms with her teammates and the lessons she learns along the way.
