In a desperate bid for power, the ruthless samurai lord Daigo Kagemitsu makes a pact with 12 malevolent demons, sacrificing his own humanity in the process. His reward is a thriving prefecture, but at a terrible cost: his firstborn son is born without limbs, nose, eyes, ears, or skin, yet somehow remains alive. Abandoned in a river, the child is rescued by a wise medicine man who equips him with prosthetics and weapons, allowing him to eke out a meager existence.

As the boy grows, he sets out to reclaim his lost humanity by defeating the demons that claimed him as a sacrifice. With each demon's demise, he regains a piece of himself, slowly rediscovering his true form. For years, he wanders alone, until a chance encounter with a scrappy orphan boy named Dororo brings a glimmer of hope to his desolate existence. Together, these two misfits must navigate a treacherous world overrun by demons, fighting for their survival and the right to be human.
