In a new school, Kodaka Hasegawa hopes to turn over a fresh leaf and forge meaningful connections. But his striking blond hair and stern demeanor lead classmates to misjudge him as a violent delinquent, leaving him friendless. Despite his efforts, a month goes by with no improvement. That is, until he stumbles upon Yozora Mikazuki, another social outcast, conversing with her imaginary companion in an empty classroom. As they commiserate about their shared struggles, they hatch a plan to overcome their loneliness by establishing the Neighbor's Club. This motley crew, comprising fellow misfits Sena Kashiwazaki and others, aims to master social skills and blend in, ultimately hoping to form genuine bonds.
