As he enrolls in Karasuno High School, the alma mater of his idol, he's convinced that he's one step closer to achieving his dream of becoming a professional volleyball player.

However, his optimism is soon tempered when he discovers that Tobio Kageyama, the prodigious player who crushed his middle school team, is now his teammate.
