As a 27-year-old with a string of failed job attempts and a reputation for being a hopeless loser, Arata Kaizaki's life is stuck in a rut. That is, until he meets Ryou Yoake, a representative of the ReLife Research Institute, who offers him a chance to reboot his existence with a mysterious pill. With no hesitation, Arata takes the pill and wakes up the next morning to find himself transformed back into a 17-year-old high school student.

Arata soon learns that he's now part of a unique experiment, tasked with attending high school as a transfer student for a year. Initially, he believes his life experience will give him an edge, but his first day is a humbling experience. He struggles to keep up with new school policies, fails his tests, and finds himself out of shape. To make matters worse, Ryou is assigned to observe him, driving Arata to the brink of frustration.
