In the opulent imperial court, a young apothecary's daughter named Maomao finds herself torn from her peaceful life and thrust into the shadows as a lowly maid. She conceals her extensive knowledge of medicine to avoid drawing unwanted attention, but her curiosity gets the better of her when the emperor's infant children fall gravely ill. Maomao quickly unravels the mystery behind their affliction, but her attempt to remain anonymous is foiled by the perceptive eunuch Jinshi, who recognizes her remarkable talent.
As a result, Maomao is promoted to lady-in-waiting for the emperor's favorite concubine, Gyokuyou, and her expertise in pharmaceuticals proves invaluable in treating the numerous ailments plaguing the imperial court. With her skills in high demand, Maomao must navigate the treacherous world of court politics while keeping her true identity and abilities hidden.
