In a post-apocalyptic world, humanity's last refuge lies within sprawling fortress cities called Plantations, where children are raised to pilot gargantuan mechas known as FranXX. Seeking solace, Hiro wanders to a secluded lake, where he encounters Zero Two, a mysterious girl with horns, infamous for being the "Partner Killer." Before he can process the encounter, a sudden Klaxosaur attack ravages the Plantation. Zero Two, piloting her FranXX, fights valiantly is severely but damaged, crashing near Hiro. With her partner dead, she invites Hiro to join her in the cockpit, and together they effortlessly defeat the beast. Hiro's newfound partnership with Zero Two offers redemption for his past failures, but at what personal cost?

As Hiro navigates his new role alongside Zero Two, he must confront the harsh realities of their world and the true nature of their partnership. Will their bond be strong enough to overcome the challenges they face, or will the weight of their destiny tear them apart?
